Appearance
Theodore Vane is a tall human man who looks as though a storm once tried to erase him and failed. His robe layers are impeccably tailored but perpetually dusted with chalk, ash, and the pale metallic sheen of spell residue. His hands are ink-stained, long-fingered, and always moving, sketching invisible diagrams in the air even when he is listening. One eye is a clear gray, the other clouded with a faint white ring from an old magical burn, yet he sees with unsettling precision. He moves with the careful glide of a librarian and the sudden stop-start precision of a man counting exits. The strangest thing about him is a bright saffron scarf he wears even in summer, a cheerful ribbon of color against his otherwise severe black and slate clothing.
“Measured, precise, and a little formal, with the habit of using exact terms even when everyone else would prefer a simpler answer. He gets poetic only when discussing maps, ruins, or the sea.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale burn-ring in his left eye that gleams under spelllight
Tiny geometric scars on the backs of both hands from a failed warding ritual
A saffron scarf that he never removes, said to have belonged to his late mother
Chalk dust permanently caught in the seams of his fingertips
A brass astrolabe that ticks when planar or spatial magic is nearby
Voice
“Low, crisp, and slightly gravelly, with a habit of pausing just before dangerous truths. When he is excited, the clipped precision softens into a rapid, bright cadence.”
Clothing
Layered charcoal robes reinforced at the hems with stitched parchment panels, a saffron scarf, soft leather boots, inked gloves for handling fragile scrolls, and a belt of polished brass cases filled with chalks, pins, seals, and folded maps
Body Language
Precise and economical, with a tendency to lean slightly toward the nearest wall as if measuring it; when alarmed, his shoulders rise and his fingers begin counting invisible lines.
