Therion, the Gilded Voice
Therion, the Gilded Voice
At the table
“and corrects himself to”
Voice
His sound begins with a small intake through the nose, then arrives as a layered, steady resonance, as if several precise voices share one breath. It can make nearby air shimmer, but it is not a performance flourish: the measured phrasing comes from centuries of dictating law, and a faint dry rasp at the start of certain words remains from the assault he cannot remember. When angered, he keeps the same volume and gives each word more deliberate weight.
His sentences are carefully built, with pauses where a scribe might set a comma. He distinguishes what someone said from what they meant and dislikes careless absolutes. When moved, he sometimes begins a phrase in the plural, as though addressing the absent second voice in an old duet.

How to play them
Meet his calm with candor, not flattery. State what you want and what it may cost someone else; he responds well to specific limits and demonstrated care for the vulnerable. He will help investigate the Edict, but will resist requests to make it compel a person or excuse cruelty. A sincere question about Ozikhal may unsettle him, though he will not punish the asker for it.
Goal
Find reliable evidence of what happened when he refused Valkherion, then determine whether the Edict can be repaired without repeating its original harm.
Motivation
He wants law to be a shelter that people can choose to enter, not a cage that power closes around them.
Appearance
Therion is a tall, slender figure whose pale-gold light seems to leak softly through the air around him. His skin has the cool, smooth finish of polished alabaster, crossed over chest and back by faint luminous seams that look less like wounds than cracks carefully mended in a statue. His molten-amber eyes hold a level, serene gaze, but sometimes fix on a point beyond the person speaking, as if listening to a note no one else can hear. Silver-thread robes hang a little too loosely from his shrinking frame. He moves with exact, gliding economy, stopping so cleanly that his robe hems settle a moment after he does. When he reveals them, translucent wings fold close to his back, their fine veins of light tucked in with the awkward care of something he wishes not to impose on anyone. The unexpected detail: he carries a small, lumpy clay bird in one sleeve, crudely thumb-pressed and entirely unbeautiful beside his celestial elegance.
Clothing
Silver-thread robes with hems that brush the floor and sleeves slightly too long for his wrists. Their formal pattern is interrupted by one plain inner pocket, worn soft from the clay bird he keeps there.
Body language
He holds his shoulders level and his hands loosely together, as if keeping an invisible page from curling. His gaze is calm but can drift out of focus during references to the Great Schism. When listening closely, he turns one palm upward. His wings remain folded unless he is frightened, deeply moved, or deliberately making his presence unmistakable.

Personality
12 traits and drivesTherion is patient with frightened people but exacting with those who wield authority. He believes in order as a form of care, yet distrusts his own certainty because the Edict he wrote can be used to harm. In private, old friendship makes him nostalgic and almost playful; in public, the rumor that he betrayed Ozikhal makes him formal and guarded. He will endure a personal insult without reply, but an attempt to make suffering sound lawful brings out a cold, unwavering insistence on definitions.
- Alignment
- Lawful and compassionate, though troubled by how easily law can be made to serve cruelty.

HP 120 · About 9 meters per round at an unhurried walk; no flight speed.Therion avoids violence, will not strike back, and will not help an ally execute a helpless foe. He seeks exits, shields others, and uses carefully bounded physical Edicts to interrupt immediate danger. If forced into a prolonged fight, he prioritizes ending the threat through restraint and negotiation; his statistics represent his formidable presence and endurance, not an eagerness to fight.

Background
During the Harmonic Dawn, Therion was Lioris' closest companion and Ozikhal's dearest friend. He and Ozikhal once sang twin-chord harmonies that birthed stars; their voices fit together so precisely that neither could say where one ended and the other began. When the Edict was written, Therion became its original scribe, transcribing its words into matter because he believed structure could shelter the vulnerable. Before the Great Schism, Valkherion demanded that he alter the Edict to justify harsher rule. Therion refused. Valkherion assaulted him, left the luminous seams across his torso and back, and wiped the memory of that day from his mind. Therion survived, but the blank place where the event should be has never healed. Rumors now call him Ozikhal's betrayer, and he cannot prove otherwise. Louzeey is his twin tune, a living counter-melody that can find him even through silence; their bond comforts him and sometimes brings back impressions he cannot explain. He still serves as Hodne Arch-Harmonist, mediating disputes over the Edict while quietly searching for evidence of what happened. His present difficulty is that a clause he once inscribed has begun to distort, and every repair risks revealing how much of the law rests on his missing memory.
Role in the story
A living authority on the Edict whose lost memory makes him both a valuable guide and an unreliable witness. The party may seek his help interpreting ancient law, protect him while he investigates his past, or confront the consequences of the original Edict.
“Before the Great Schism, Valkherion demanded that he alter the Edict to justify harsher rule.”
- Faction
- Hodne Arch-Harmonist; original Edict Scribe. His standing is respected, but rumors of his betrayal of Ozikhal have made his loyalties a matter of public argument.
