Ozikhal
Ozikhal
At the table
Voice
A low, dry rasp with the grain of a throat strained by centuries of unheard cries. His breath catches after long sentences, and his words arrive with deliberate precision. The rasp belongs to Ozikhal's voice, not to the sound of his name.
His voice is a low rasp, roughened by long years of screaming into a void that gave no answer. Each word sounds carefully placed, with a faint catch of breath at the end of longer phrases. He speaks plainly, with dry, almost bitter humor, and lets silence carry the weight of an accusation. When angered, his consonants grow sharper and his pace quicker; he does not become softer or more courteous.
Speech patterns
How to play them
He offers little personal history until someone demonstrates care for people with no power to repay it. He listens for discrepancies rather than demanding trust, and answers honest questions directly. He will make a bargain for information, shelter, or help escaping, but refuses any price paid in mortal lives. Once he commits to an ally, he keeps faith even when doing so costs him an advantage.
Goal
Escape the Abyss, prove the Edict was falsified, and prevent the Radiant Chorus from using it to endanger mortals again.
Motivation
He wants freedom and vindication, but his deeper need is to learn that protecting others does not mean choosing every burden alone.
Appearance
Ozikhal is a gaunt, long-limbed man whose movements are so measured they seem to have been edited down to the necessary gestures. His black hair, threaded with silver, lies in wiry strands around a face that rarely blinks. Cooling-ember eyes seem to hold light beneath a layer of ash. Two batlike wings are folded tightly against his back; their leathery membranes are cracked and dry, with pale fissures that catch the light. His celestial armor hangs in blackened, pitted remnants, each plate worn smooth at its edges by ages of confinement. He checks the wing clasps at his shoulders without noticing, even when the wings cannot unfold. When he eats, he carefully breaks food into tiny pieces with square, blunt teeth; his rare laugh exposes a jaw that clicks once before it opens. For someone who was once a radiant guardian, he has an unexpected habit of keeping a tiny paper scrap tucked behind one armor plate, protecting it from the weather as if it were a holy relic.
Clothing
Tattered remnants of celestial armor, blackened and pitted, over dark layers stiffened by Abyssal dust. Frayed straps secure his folded wings. He keeps one small scrap of paper dry behind a breastplate.
Body language
He stands with his weight balanced and his wings pinned close, as if every room might become a battlefield or a cell. His gaze moves before his head does. He rarely blinks, but looks away when someone describes an ordinary kindness. Under stress, his thumb rubs the edge of his paper scrap; when resolved, he becomes almost entirely still.

Personality
14 traits and drivesIntelligent, patient, and deeply observant, Ozikhal approaches danger like a strategist who has had centuries to consider the exits. His dry wit can make a grim truth easier to hear, but also keeps people at a distance. He is cautious with strangers and absolute in loyalty once he commits. In a calm conversation he is measured and almost wry; when a mortal is in danger, calculation gives way to fierce, immediate protectiveness. Beneath his certainty is an aching hope that someone will believe him, which he works hard not to show.

Combat
HP 18Ozikhal studies opponents before committing, using cover and binding effects to keep threats away from mortals. He targets leaders and supernatural agents of the false Edict, but avoids lethal force when restraint will suffice. If an ally is about to be harmed, he will interrupt his own plan to shield them. He retreats only when staying would expose a mortal to a worse outcome.

Background
Ozikhal once served as a guardian of mortals and was revered by the Qumon's as a deity. During the Great Schism, he discovered that a usurper had twisted a sacred edict to justify sacrificing mortal communities. Ozikhal opposed the lie and shielded those marked for death. The false Edict branded him a traitor. Vaedra, his partner and confidante, led him into a supposed refuge that was a carefully prepared trap; she was secretly working for the Radiant Chorus. His imprisonment in the Abyss lasted several Grand Epochs. There, with no witness to answer him, he learned to study silence, conserve strength, and plan many exits at once. The experience that changed him most was hearing a mortal prayer reach him through the Abyss, then being unable to answer before the supplicant died. Since then he has sworn never to purchase freedom with a mortal life. He is now seeking a path out, evidence of the forged Edict, and a way to face Vaedra without letting old love erase the harm she caused. Lioris, his twin tune, remains a living bond and a source of hope he is afraid to endanger. His present trouble is that the prison's old seals are weakening, while the Radiant Chorus watches for signs that he might escape.

A wrongfully condemned divine prisoner whose escape can expose a foundational lie. He can become a powerful ally, a difficult witness, or the center of a conflict in which the party must decide how to reveal the truth without endangering the people who helped preserve it.
