Alaric of the Silver Lily
Alaric of the Silver Lily
At the table
“Forgive me... did I just ask you that? The air here is thick as honey today, isn”
Voice
Resonant, baritone, but layered with a shimmering acoustic quality.
Formal and archaic. He uses words like 'thrice,' 'forsooth,' and 'squire' with no irony. His voice has a strange echo, as if two versions of him are speaking slightly out of sync.

How to play them
Players must engage with his chivalric code and patience. If they mention the passage of years too bluntly, he suffers a mental break (Vertigo). If they play along with his timeline, he is an invaluable source of ancient knowledge.
Goal
Locate his horse Elara and exit the forest clearing before 'nightfall.'
Motivation
To find his mare, Elara, and finish his patrol so he can return home to his wife, whom he believes is currently making stew for his dinner.
Appearance
Alaric is a figure of tragic dissonance. He wears full plate armor that is so corroded by orange rust it looks like textured autumn leaves, yet his face is unnervingly smooth and youthful, as if he stepped out of a bath moments ago. He sits with a ramrod-straight military posture on a log that has petrified into stone. When he moves, the rust on his joints flakes off in small clouds, but the metal underneath never seems to thin. His presence carries the scent of ozone and wet cedar. Most strikingly, his shadow does not move with the sun, instead remaining fixed in a position suggesting high noon.
Clothing
A tattered gambeson of faded white silk beneath rusted iron plate armor. A silver lily brooch pins a threadbare grey cloak to his shoulder.
Body language
Precise and knightly, but with a slight jitter or lag, as if his physical body is struggling to keep up with his movements.

Personality
11 traits and drivesAlaric is possessed by a harrowing courtesy; he is a man of deep honor whose reality is crumbling. He is intensely gregarious with travelers because he believes he has only been alone for an hour, yet he is prone to sudden, terrifying bouts of 'chronal vertigo.' He might be explaining the local geography and then suddenly stop, weeping because he believes the person he is talking to hasn't been born yet. He is patient with others but becomes frustrated with himself when his memory 'loops,' causing him to repeat the same greeting three or four times in a row.

Background
Two centuries ago, Alaric was a decorated knight of the Order of the Silver Lily, tasked with finding the Duke's runaway daughter. He tracked her horse into the clearing known as the 'Glass Noon.' Upon entering, he found the horse's tracks simply vanished. He sat down to build a fire and wait for daybreak, not realizing that within the Glass Noon, one hour is equivalent to twenty years in the outside world. He has 'woken up' and restarted his campfire thousands of times, but in his mind, it is still the same Tuesday in the year 1224. He has met dozens of adventurers over the 'days,' but he forgets them as soon as they leave the clearing, as their timelines disconnect from his.
