Shesho Thesai
Shesho Thesai
At the table
Voice
A rough-edged, carrying voice shaped by salt air, command, and long bargaining across noisy docks. He articulates names and terms with deliberate precision; in a fight, his orders become blunt, forceful bursts.
His voice carries the dry rasp of a man accustomed to issuing orders over surf and dockside clamor. He shapes words carefully in negotiations, with clipped consonants and a faint breath of clove oil between phrases. When angered, he does not soften or lower his voice; he makes each command shorter and more difficult to mistake.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Begin with terms, not threats. Shesho offers practical concessions if they preserve his authority, and expects visitors to understand that every favor creates an obligation. He respects useful candor and competent negotiation; public humiliation or interference with his control of the clans can end the discussion abruptly.
Goal
Keep Locke Isle and its surrounding political network under his rule while ensuring no outside power can dictate the isles' future.
Motivation
Shesho wants to preserve his authority and the independence of his island network, while proving that a ruler can keep disorder from swallowing the ports. He also wants, privately, to believe that the people he commands can be more than instruments of his policy.
Appearance
Shesho is an ebony-olive-skinned oni, taller than most orcs, with a broad, trained frame that fills a doorway without seeming hurried. Blue-black hair is bound into a thick braid, and his goatee is sometimes threaded with a single jewel. His amethyst eyes hold a steady, measuring focus. His jeweled tusks catch harbor light when he speaks. Fine cloth lies smooth over his shoulders, embroidered cuffs flash when he gestures, and his polished shoes seem absurdly pristine beside wet docks. He walks with an even, heel-first stride, never seeming to favor either side. The air around him carries the sharp scent of clove oil laid over salt, horse sweat, and smoke; he appears not to notice it. His most unexpected possession is a small, carefully mended child's wooden boat, which he handles with more care than his jeweled ornaments.
Clothing
Ornate, well-fitted fine clothes in deep sea-green and dark plum, with embroidered cuffs, a broad sash, jeweled tusk settings, and polished shoes suited more to a reception hall than a muddy wharf.
Body language
He plants both feet before negotiating, leaving his shoulders relaxed and his hands visible. When irritated, he turns a jeweled tusk slightly with his tongue and fixes his gaze on the person who issued the last threat. In combat, his posture drops forward and his steps become short, heavy, and direct.

AC 41 · HP 350 · 30 feetShesho advances behind a screen of clan fighters, using reach and force to disrupt the strongest opposing combatant. He spends a command to reposition a useful ally, then uses Break the Line to scatter defenders or isolate a target. He prefers surrender when it preserves valuable leverage, but once personally threatened he commits fully and drives opponents toward a wall, railing, or edge.

Background
Shesho Thesai built his rule through negotiation backed by force. He permits Gullwake Harbor, Fernwake, and Cicada Shelf their day-to-day governance so long as they pay tribute and follow his edicts. The Katsuma, Tovarn, and Yumari clans enforce his political, economic, and social demands across Locke Isle; he also places clansmen in other settlements as he sees fit. His ties to Keytooth Island and Amasena Noro bind him to the region's slave trade, while his dealings with Thyatian interests have brought weapons and training into the isles. Years ago, during a storm-driven evacuation, he ordered a crowded landing cleared for a shipment of valuable captives. A child was swept from the pier in the crush. Shesho retrieved the child's little boat afterward and has kept it ever since, an unwelcome reminder that his decisions have costs he cannot command away. He still sends Sashi-Nare members to settle defiance, but lately their reports suggest that even his own enforcers are beginning to judge which orders they will carry out.
