Vespera "Vex" Vane-Tide
Species
Sea Elf
Appearance
Vespera is a wiry sea-elf woman whose narrow, angular face suggests a knife sharpened against coral. Her short-cropped midnight-blue hair is threaded with premature gray and usually smells faintly of brine, lamp oil, and metal polish. Pale green eyes dominate her face, wide and restless, tracking hinges, pockets, cracks, exits, and people's hands before they have finished moving. Her skin has a muted blue-gray sheen, textured in places by fine salt-scarring from years spent in cold wrecks. She moves with the quick, economical balance of someone perpetually standing on the deck of a pitching ship, yet when she is engrossed in an artifact she becomes almost perfectly still. The contradiction is startling: her hands are stained, scarred, and permanently nicked like a dockworker's, while her posture and meticulous gestures possess the brittle precision of a court jeweler.
“Her voice is low, dry, and quick, with the faint rasp of someone accustomed to speaking through diving gear. She pronounces technical terms with loving precision and people's names with suspicious care.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin silver scar runs from her left temple to the corner of her mouth, left by a collapsing relic-vault door.
Three magnifying loupes are strapped around her temples, each fitted with a different colored lens.
Her left index finger is a brass-and-coral prosthetic that can project a fine blue calibration beam.
She has a habit of wearing one mismatched earring made from a broken pre-Sundering circuit plate.
Her palms are covered in tiny white salt scars that glow faintly near active relics.
Voice
“A dry contralto with a salt-weathered rasp, usually calm enough to sound insulting and occasionally rising into a sharp, breathless panic when someone damages an artifact.”
Clothing
A grease-stained canvas apron covers a dark leather utility jerkin reinforced with overlapping strips of treated ray-skin. She wears salt-dark trousers, soft deck boots, fingerless gloves, a reinforced bracer etched with calibration marks, and a bandolier holding glass acid-vials, brass calipers, rune-tracing styluses, folded maps, and tiny labeled specimen jars.
Body Language
Vespera leans toward objects and away from people. Her fingers constantly measure invisible distances, tap coded rhythms against her bracer, or hover protectively over nearby relics. In danger she becomes fluid and low, moving like a reef predator. In polite company she folds inward, shoulders tight, eyes darting toward the nearest exit.
