Lord Varkesh Vurnthrik
Wizard 8, School of Enchantment; Rogue 4, Mastermind
Lord Varkesh Vurnthrik
Species
Dragonborn, black ancestry
Appearance
Lord Varkesh is a sleek black dragonborn whose midnight scales absorb lamplight rather than reflect it, leaving only a subtle oil-slick sheen along his cheekbones and throat. His sharply swept horns resemble blades drawn backward from his skull, and his violet-grey eyes remain unnervingly still while everyone else in the room moves. He walks with the measured glide of a court dancer, yet his claws click like a metronome whenever he has reached a conclusion. His robes are immaculate, severe, and military in cut, with obsidian thread hidden in the seams. The unexpected contradiction is his hands: broad, scarred, and visibly callused from years of sword drills and prison-yard interrogations, utterly at odds with his polished aristocratic presentation. He leaves behind the impression of a sealed letter that has somehow already been opened.
“His voice is low, polished, and perfectly paced, with a dry rasp beneath the vowels like parchment drawn over stone. He rarely raises it.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin silver scar crosses the left side of his lower jaw.
The black stone in his signet ring contains a trapped bubble of pale green glass.
His left horn is filed with tiny legal notches recording major political victories.
Acid has permanently bleached three scales beneath his right eye to a smoky grey.
His shadow sometimes appears to turn its head a fraction of a second after he does.
Voice
“Low, polished, patient, and faintly rasping, like a legal proclamation delivered through smoke”
Clothing
Impeccably tailored charcoal robes with military seams, a high collar, hidden obsidian embroidery, soft black gloves, polished scale-leather boots, and an inner sleeve holster for his ebony wand
Body Language
He stands perfectly balanced, usually with one claw resting against the opposite wrist. During negotiations, he slowly rotates a signet ring until its black stone faces the person he intends to pressure. He rarely blinks while someone lies, but blinks rapidly when someone tells an unexpected truth.
