A castle under siege
Recipe: Wilderness Encounter
Shadow of the Iron Ring
The approach to Castle Ironspire is no longer a path, but a wound in the earth. A thick, sulfurous mist—half-natural fog and half-siege smoke—clings to the ravines, muffling the rhythmic thud of distant trebuchets. The surrounding woods have been stripped bare for lumber, leaving behind a graveyard of jagged stumps and churned mud that reeks of iron and rot. Everywhere, the signs of a desperate blockade are visible: abandoned supply wagons overturned in the muck and the occasional glint of a discarded breastplate. Between the besieging army's camp and the castle’s desperate walls lies a 'no-man's-land' of treacherous terrain. Here, the local wildlife has been driven to madness or replaced by the horrific war-beasts of the attackers. Moving through this grey expanse requires treading carefully between the scavenger-picked remains of the fallen and the watchful eyes of the monsters that now claim these hollowed hills as their hunting ground.
