Recipe: Dungeon Floor
The stair down does not feel like a descent into a monster’s lair at first. It feels like following a supply chain that never finished its journey. Old loading tracks vanish into the dark, drainage channels hum beneath the stone, and long-abandoned lamp hooks still line the walls like iron ribs. Somewhere ahead, a cart has been overturned, casks split open, and the scent of enchanted oil lingers where it should never have mixed with wet stone and fungal rot. This floor was once built for work: storage, transport, inspection, and steady hands keeping the town’s nightly light alive. Now water gathers in the wrong places, spores stain the mortar, and something in the lower halls has learned that darkness is profitable. The missing supplier’s footprints, when they can be found at all, lead deeper through a maze of half-broken corridors, secret service routes, and warded doors toward a chamber where the underdark itself seems to press against the walls.
Scratched ledger note
“"No light goes below without a price, and no price is fair once the dark starts counting." ”

This ruined intake complex once moved lamp oil, wicks, and ritual freight from the surface to deeper workings below. Now it serves as a grim funnel into the underdark, where a missing supplier caravan was dragged inward and something patient has claimed the old route.

Beneath the ruined town supply works lies a flooded distribution hall that once stored lamp oil, enchanted wicks, and delivery ledgers for a network meant to keep the streets lit and beasts at bay. Now the lower level has become a choke point of knee-deep water, unstable catwalks, and predatory intruders, with the missing supplier somewhere below and signs that a deeper faction has seized the dark.

This forgotten refinery once prepared enchanted lamp oil and treated wicks for the town's night lanterns, but the workrooms have been overtaken by fungus and repurposed into a living nursery. The complex is dangerous, claustrophobic, and threaded with looping routes that let intruders get lost while the things below the floor listen for movement.

This is a buried checkpoint of stone, fungus, and old warding built to control passage into the underdark below. A missing supplier has been dragged here for leverage, and the dungeon’s masters are hoarding the enchanted oil and wicks meant to keep the town lit at night. Every room feels like a step in a deliberate defense, from the surface-facing sentry posts to the ritual threshold at the dark below.

A flood-dwelling tunnel predator warped by underdark seepage and the scent of enchanted lantern oil. It hunts supply corridors, broken drains, and half-submerged chambers where weak light and muffled footsteps make travelers easy to isolate.

A warded fungus-bound sentinel forged from refinery debris, spore growth, and old lantern-magic to defend the lower chambers where the town's enchanted oil and wicks are stored.

When the light fails, we remain.
Generated entities
The air below the floor carries damp heat, weak luminescence, and an uneasy shimmer from old lantern wards gone half-dormant. In darkness, distant footsteps seem closer than they are, and light sources attract moths, spores, and watchful eyes.
Areas of bright light reduce Stealth for hidden creatures; in dim light or darkness, spores impose disadvantage on Perception checks relying on sight.
