Plague-Chapel Sewers

The sewers breathe rot, prayers, and the footsteps of the dead.

10 roomssewermedium

Beneath the city lies a forgotten sewer shrine complex where scavengers, cult remnants, and the restless dead have made a choking home. The upper rooms still smell of rot and river mud, but the lower chambers pulse with old sacrilege and a dead priest's hunger.

The sewers run cold and damp, with ankle-deep runoff, slick brick, and the metallic stink of old blood under filth. Lantern-light barely survives the bends, while distant dripping, faint chanting, and the scrape of things moving behind walls make every corridor feel watched.

☠ Threat

The dungeon is dominated by the embalmed remains of the sewer-priest Vhalren, who rose as an undead warder after the cleansing rites failed. He commands lesser dead through corrupted shrine magic and intends to drown the upper city in a flood of tainted water unless his corpse-cache and sanctified seals are broken.

History

A century ago, the city built these sewers around an older plague chapel buried beneath the foundations. When a sewer-keeper order tried to cleanse the site, their high priest sealed the lower levels with oath-runes and died in the flood. Since then, scavengers, cultists, and the unquiet dead have claimed the stone corridors, each layer adding fresh rot to old sacrament.

Corridor Notes

Upper corridors near Room 1

Rusted grates overhead leak weak daylight in thin bars, but only in the upper passages near the entrance.

Main north-south run between Room 1, Room 2, and Room 3

Half-flooded channels force careful footing, and any loud splash echoes unnaturally far.

Side corridors branching from Room 2

Old maintenance niches hold cracked votive candles and sewer tools wrapped in moldy cloth.

Deeper passage near Room 5 and Room 7

A narrow culvert carries a constant whispering current, often masking movement until it is too late.
