The Cracked Gourd
Once a modest coaching inn by a busy crossroads, The Cracked Gourd earned its name when a merchant’s ceramic keg shattered in the yard and a local joked that it 'still served more ale than better inns.' Over thirty years Bren Malor took ownership after his militia company disbanded; he lost an arm in a skirmish and replaced it with a carved iron hook. He rebuilt the place into a refuge for caravans, tradesfolk, and miners, instituting the arm-wrestling nights to keep tempers from spilling into fights.
