Mara Thistlewink

Mara Thistlewink
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Mara Thistlewink has the compact, weather-tough look of someone shaped by hot presses and long harvests. Her skin is sun-browned and faintly olive-stained at the fingertips, with fine silver-green flecks embedded in the creases of her hands from years of handling cured fruit and brine. Her auburn hair is usually twisted into a practical knot, but a single braid always escapes at the nape of her neck and hangs damp with oil. She moves with quick, careful steps, as if the floor might suddenly tilt, yet she has the sharp, watchful stillness of a bird when she thinks no one is looking. She wears a patched work apron over homespun clothes, and despite her grease-marked sleeves, she keeps a tiny bronze brooch shaped like a moonflower pinned at her collar, absurdly elegant against all the grime.
“She speaks in a low, quick, practical cadence, with little pauses as if she is measuring each word before releasing it. She rarely raises her voice, but when she does it becomes startlingly clear and firm.”

Distinguishing Features
A faint crescent scar across her left palm from a splintered press lever.
A permanent olive stain along the first two fingers of her right hand.
One ear pierced with a tiny brass ring shaped like a seed pod.
Her apron pocket always contains a wrapped lemon candy she never eats unless she is truly desperate.
Voice
“Soft, brisk, and dryly amused, with a surprising steel in moments of truth”
Clothing
Patchwork linen shirt, dark wool trousers, oilcloth apron, fingerless gloves, and a weathered satchel with neat stitched pockets for labels and sealing twine
Body Language
She keeps her shoulders slightly forward as if bracing against a press beam, and when excited she taps two fingers against her thumb in a rapid little rhythm. Her gaze rarely settles on faces for long, preferring hands, belts, and exits.
