Blackridge Castle

The castle still obeys a dead king, and the dead are tired of being disturbed.

32 rooms✦castle✦medium

This ruined castle has been refitted into a layered fortress of stores, barracks, prisons, reliquaries, and sealed vaults. Its deepest chambers still obey a dead warlord's discipline, and the halls feel less abandoned than occupied by something patient and cruel.

“
Cold draft through arrow slits, wet stone, and old smoke hangs in the halls. Rusted banners stir as if someone just passed, and every corridor carries distant clanking chains, muffled chanting, and the occasional scrape of metal on bone. Torchlight is sparse, greenish in places from witch-lamps left burning long ago.

☠ Threat

The castle is ruled by the lingering command of Warden-King Malrec, an undead tyrant whose will is anchored in the lower vaults and supported by disciplined dead, trapped passages, and oath-bound guardians. His surviving captains and bound spirits still enforce the old siege protocols, making the entire dungeon react like a fortress under active war.

History

Blackridge Castle was founded as a border fortress to resist a southern invasion, then expanded into a royal prison when the war ended. Centuries later, Warden-King Malrec seized it during a winter coup, stockpiled relics and war spoils below, and turned the castle into his private engine of fear. When he died in the inner vaults, his lieutenants and dead retainers kept the place running from habit, oath, and dark sorcery.
