Ashen Archive

The dead remember every oath spoken beneath these broken stones.

12 roomsruinsmedium

This ruined complex was once a fortified archive-temple built into the earth, then abandoned after a violent purge and half-collapsed in the decades that followed. Now it is a dangerous knot of broken halls, trapped crossings, and hungry dead, with a deeper power still guarding the heart of the place.

Cold drafts move through cracked masonry, carrying dust, mold, and the metallic tang of old blood. Torchlight feels weak here, swallowed by leaning arches and black stains on the stone, while distant knocks and scrapes suggest something still prowls the buried halls.

☠ Threat

A bound corpse-lord known as the Lector of Ashes stirs beneath the lower sanctum, feeding on the lingering oaths and preserved names of the dead. Its servants patrol the ruins, and each disturbed seal weakens the old bindings that keep the entity from escaping into the countryside.

History

The site was built by a scholarly order that served a frontier barony, combining archive, chapel, and refuge against necromantic incursions. When the order attempted to seal away a captured corpse-lord, a betrayal within their ranks caused a massacre and fire. The upper levels were then abandoned, and later scavengers triggered collapses that sealed the deeper chambers in ruin.
