Ashen Archive
The books are dead, the wards are hungry, and something in the dark still keeps the catalog.
This forgotten lair was once a private archive built beneath a fortified refuge, then repurposed into a vault for forbidden knowledge and living experiments. Now the lower chambers have been claimed by undead custodians, prowling beasts, and broken constructs that still obey old commands. The deeper one goes, the more the dungeon feels like it is actively trying to keep its secrets buried.
Cold, stale air clings to damp stone and old vellum. Lantern light feels swallowed by long shadows, while distant scraping, the rustle of pages, and the clank of dead mechanisms echo through the halls. The place smells of mildew, dust, tallow, and a faint medicinal rot that hints something undead still tends the old lair.
☠Threat
At the center of the dungeon lurks a bound relic-warden, an undead librarian sustained by stolen memories and the remnants of the archive's warding engine. It commands the surviving constructs and restless dead, using them to protect a cache of cursed scrolls and books that can rewrite names, oaths, and even memories. If it is not stopped, it will rebuild the lair into a self-protecting tomb and claim new minds for its shelves.
History
Long before the lair fell, a reclusive order of arcanists built it as a secure library and retreat for their most dangerous research. When a plague of soul rot spread among their ranks, they sealed the lower levels, interred the dead as guards, and left their constructs to maintain order. Time and neglect twisted that safeguard into a prison for anything that still moved.
Encounter Table

Rumours & Whispers
