Appearance
Howell Tormand looks painfully ordinary at first glance, the sort of man who would disappear into a market crowd if not for the unnerving stillness he carries. He has a weathered face that seems carved from patient rain, with fine lines around the mouth from years of listening rather than laughing. His clothes are plain town-lord finery in muted charcoal and rivergreen, always immaculate but never ostentatious, as though he refuses to let wealth become a boast. When he walks, he moves with measured economy, never wasting a step, and his hands remain almost unnaturally still until he offers one in greeting. The contradiction that catches people off guard is his one bright indulgence: a vivid crimson silk lining in the inside of his coat, visible only when he turns sharply, like a concealed ember in a coal-scuttle.
“Low, measured, and precise, with the cadence of a man reading a clause aloud. He never rushes a sentence, and when he wants someone to understand a point, he says it twice in different words.”

Distinguishing Features
Eyes that seem to settle on lies before they are fully spoken.
A scar across the right thumb from a failed oath he once tried to bind too quickly.
An immaculate signet ring worn on a chain around his neck when he expects violence.
A faint, silver threadlike halo around his shadow whenever he invokes his bloodline magic.
Voice
“Quiet, gravelly, and deliberate, with the unsettling calm of a man who has already heard the end of the argument.”
Clothing
Plain but finely cut lordly coat, dark wool waistcoat, riverstone gray trousers, polished boots, a signet ring of black iron and silver, and a narrow clasp at the throat engraved with legal knotwork.
Body Language
Still and controlled, with rare precise gestures. He tilts his head slightly when concentrating, and his gaze lingers on mouths and hands instead of eyes, as though he is reading both speech and intention together.
