His scales are matte in the shade and suddenly mirror-bright when lightning touches them, as if the sky itself is trying to remember his shape. His wings are oversized for his body, with translucent membranes that ripple like wet silk in the wind. He moves with the skittering eagerness of a fledgling hawk, then freezes in suspicious dignity whenever anyone watches him.
