Blackchain Crypt
The chains remember every name spoken in the dark.
The Blackchain Crypt is a buried prison where condemned souls were entombed beneath the cells that held them. Its narrow halls connect shrines, punishment chambers, and sealed oubliettes, all descending toward a forgotten jailer's throne.
Cold, stale air drifts through the crypt, carrying the smells of wet stone, old incense, and iron. Distant chains clink without warning, muffled voices seem to whisper behind sealed doors, and pale blue corpse-lights flicker in wall niches.
☠ Threat
The dungeon is ruled by Magistrate Odran Vale, now a chain devil-touched wight who calls himself the Jailer-King. He commands the dead through iron seals embedded in the floors and walls, using the prisoners' lingering terror to restore his strength. Every opened lock awakens another fragment of his authority and draws the party closer to his throne in room-11.
History
The crypt was built three centuries ago by Magistrate Odran Vale, who wanted a prison no living prisoner could escape and no dead prisoner could leave. Cells were carved beneath a ruined chapel, then joined to burial vaults where executed inmates were chained upright in stone niches. When Vale began using confessions in forbidden soul-binding rites, the wardens rebelled and sealed the complex with him inside.

Corridor Notes
Iron rings and broken shackles are set into the walls at regular intervals. Some still bear scraps of prisoner's clothing, while others are stained with dark, ancient blood.
Thin channels cut into the floor carry black water toward the lowest levels. The water occasionally ripples against the direction of the dungeon's slope.
Small stone plaques list prisoner numbers instead of names. Several numbers have been violently scratched away.
A distant bell tolls once whenever a sealed door is opened. The sound travels through the stone and alerts creatures near Room 12.
