The Blackvein Mine
Every pick strike wakes something beneath the black stone.
The mine descends beneath a ruined settlement into chambers carved through veins of star-metal. Its abandoned works are now occupied by undead miners, crystal-fed predators, and the ancient intelligence that once made the mine impossibly rich. Every deeper passage is trapped, unstable, and shaped by a will that wants the mine opened again.
Cold mineral air, wet iron, and coal smoke seep through the mine. Blue witchfire burns in rusted sconces, while distant picks strike stone without any visible miners. The deeper chambers throb with a slow subterranean heartbeat.
☠ Threat
The mine is ruled by Foreman Veyr, a legendary miner fused with star-metal and the imprisoned intelligence below. Now a deathless construct of bone, iron, and crystal, Veyr commands the mine's undead workers and seeks to break the final seal. The deeper the characters descend, the more the mine reshapes itself to protect him and feed the entity beneath.
History
The mine was founded two centuries ago by Queen Meralda's engineers after they discovered silver-black ore that sang when struck. The queen ordered a fortress mine built around the vein, then secretly commissioned priests to bind the voice beneath it. When the miners broke through the final seal, the ore animated the dead, consumed the royal expedition, and buried the complex beneath a magical collapse.
