The Candlebound Crypt

Every candle remembers the dead, and something beneath the crypt remembers you.

The crypt lies beneath a collapsed mausoleum, its orderly burial halls twisted into a maze of prisons, shrines, and sealed vaults. The dead are not silent here, and every locked door seems to hold either a valuable relic or something that should never be released.

Cold, stale air hangs beneath the earth, heavy with candle soot, wet stone, and the sweet rot of old corpses. Blue witchfire burns in iron sconces, while distant chains clink and a slow heartbeat seems to pulse through the deepest halls.

☠ Threat

King Odran, now a wight-king, lies sealed in the deepest chamber beneath the crypt. His spirit feeds on memories rather than blood, leaving victims alive but hollow and obedient. The failing wards let his influence spread through whispers, reflected faces, and corpses that rise whenever the characters disturb an old burial rite.

History

The crypt was raised by the Candlebound Order for King Odran, a ruler feared for surviving his own execution. His priests claimed his soul had become a holy guardian, but they secretly sealed him below the mausoleum after he began speaking through every corpse in the kingdom. The complex grew as generations of wardens added prisons, shrines, and vaults around the original tomb.
