Sun-Scaled Pharaoh's Crypt
Beneath the dead sun, a dragon pharaoh counts the living among his treasures.
The Crypt of the Sun-Scaled Pharaoh descends beneath a ruined desert temple in colossal, mathematically aligned chambers. Its painted tombs, guardian statues, and sealed vaults conceal a dying draconic monarch whose spirit still commands the dead.
Dry heat clings to the stone despite the dungeon being buried deep underground. Every chamber smells of dust, old incense, and faintly sweet embalming resin, while distant claws scrape behind walls and blue funerary flames flicker in bronze bowls.
☠ Threat
Khepra-Sutekh survives as a dracolich-like mummy lord whose spirit inhabits the sealed sarcophagus in room-11. He cannot yet leave the crypt, but his commands animate guardians, awaken buried kobolds, and draw the dead toward his chamber. Each opened vault strengthens him, and the chanting grows louder as the party approaches the throne of bones.
History
The crypt was raised three centuries ago by Pharaoh Khepra-Sutekh, a warlord who claimed descent from a radiant dragon. His kobold engineers carved the complex beneath a temple and filled it with solar symbols, funerary traps, and tribute vaults. When Khepra died, priests bound his soul to a colossal black sarcophagus so he could rule the underworld forever.
