Blackoak Keep

The stolen crown waits beneath blue fire, and the keep still remembers who it belonged to.

The castle's lower keep is a compact refuge of timber galleries, stone halls, and rooms hastily claimed by a defeated archenemy. The entrance hall opens toward a dining chamber, prison quarters, a trapped passage, and a shrine, while the only deeper route leads to the fortified throne room.

Cold drafts move through timber beams and cracked stonework. The air smells of wet oak, old ash, boiled meat, and rust, while distant footsteps and the scrape of steel drift from the throne room. Failing wall sconces cast restless amber light across soot-blackened masonry.

☠ Threat

The archenemy, Lord Veyr, hides in the throne room with the last of his loyal guards. Wounded and cornered, he has bound himself to a stolen royal relic that sharpens his fear and rage, but also slowly twists him into something monstrous. He knows the castle's secret routes and intends to burn the keep rather than let his stolen title be exposed.

History

The keep was built by Queen Marwen as a frontier seat, using local gray stone for its foundations and heavy oak for its upper halls. Its lower rooms served soldiers, cooks, prisoners, and visiting nobles. Years later, the queen's trusted champion betrayed the court, took the name of Archenemy, and returned to the keep with mercenaries. He sealed the old treasury and made the throne room his final refuge.
