House Veyr, the Streaming Star
For its first century, House Veyr prospered by using Starfall fragments to discover underground water, predict dangerous weather, and locate forgotten roads. Its influence grew rapidly after the house guided the kingdom through the Seven-Year Famine, earning tax exemptions and control over several strategic provinces. During the War of Broken Banners, House Veyr provided light-bearing stones to both sides while publicly claiming neutrality. This betrayal became the house's watershed moment. The war ended when a Veyr expedition activated a fragment above the battlefield, creating a storm of streaming light that blinded thousands and forced both armies to retreat. The event became known as the Radiant Truce. Since then, the house has been treated as a necessary power, too useful to destroy and too dangerous to trust. Over the last century, House Veyr expanded into mining, banking, education, espionage, diplomacy, and magical research. Its public mission became the protection of the kingdom from celestial threats. Privately, the family grew divided over whether the Starfall was a blessing to be mastered or a warning that should never be answered.
