This round wooden shield is grown from a single cross-section of a living oak, its grain spiraling around a raised knot shaped like a sleeping fox. A rim of braided roots reinforces the edge, while soft moss covers the handgrip and never dries out. When danger approaches, tiny fireflies flicker beneath the shield's surface.
