Salt-Crusted Panther
Coastal tribes tell stories of the 'White-Back Stalker' that vanishes into the fog. It is said that the panther's salt crust is actually the dried tears of the sea, granting it protection against the elements. Alchemists value the harvested salt for its ability to preserve meat for decades.

Tactics
Opening
The panther begins the fight hidden in the coastal mist or atop a skeletal tree. It uses its Mist Camouflage to gain a surprise round, targeting the smallest or most isolated party member with a Pounce.
Mid-fight
If the Pounce is successful and the target is knocked prone, the panther bites and then attempts to use its high Athletics to grapple and move the target toward the thicket. It uses Thicket Retreat to avoid being pinned down by the rest of the party.
End of the fight
Once it has a target isolated 30-40 feet away from the group, it focuses all attacks on that individual to knock them unconscious before dragging them into total cover.
Retreat
If reduced to below 20 hit points, or if its salt armor is shattered by bludgeoning damage, the panther uses Salt Spittle to blind the nearest threat and flees into the jungle canopy.

Ecology
This panther stands four feet tall at the shoulder, its powerful frame covered in fur that transitions from desert beige on the underbelly to deep jungle green along its flanks. Its back and joints are heavily encrusted with thick, translucent salt deposits that resemble jagged armor plates. Its eyes are a milky, pale blue, adapted for seeing through heavy sea mist.
Behavior
A patient stalker, the Salt-Crusted Panther waits in the canopy of dead, skeletal trees at the edge of the dunes. It uses the morning and evening coastal mists to hide its presence before launching a single, devastating pounce. It is known to be highly territorial and will drag carcasses deep into thorny thickets to feed undisturbed.
How it lives
This predator survives by absorbing minerals from sea spray and desert minerals, which crystallize on its fur to form a protective layer. It preys on coastal gazelles, giant crabs, and unwary travelers.
Lair
Elevated rocky outcroppings or dense coastal thickets filled with the salt-bleached bones of previous kills.
- Habitat
- Temperate coastal regions, specifically the transition zones between tropical jungles and arid deserts.

What drives it
Survival and territorial defense. It seeks to secure its territory from other predators and scavenge enough salt to maintain its armor.
After the fight
After the fight, the area remains dangerously high in salt content, causing nearby plants to wither. The party may find the panther's lair nearby, containing the equipment of fallen coastal travelers who weren't fast enough to escape.
