Appearance
Mara Siltwind is a weathered Bretonnian river woman with the composure of a toll clerk and the presence of a storm bell. Her skin is sun-browned and salt-rough, marked by tiny pale nicks along the hands from rope burn and broken reeds. She moves with restrained, economical steps, as if always measuring the deck beneath her boots, yet there is an unexpected softness in the way she smooths a child’s sleeve or straightens a crooked lantern. Her most striking contradiction is her voice-lightweight and almost gentle, even when she is delivering an ultimatum that can stop a barge from passing. She wears the river like a uniform, practical and severe, but keeps one tiny ribbon of bright red silk tied inside her collar, a private flourish no one expects from her.
“Low and precise, with a dry Breton dock accent and a habit of ending hard truths with a softer, almost kind final word..”
