Mharrek Hearthquill
Bard
Mharrek Hearthquill
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Mharrek is a broad-shouldered dwarf with slate-gray skin that seems dusted with flour and ale foam, as if the tavern itself has settled into him. He keeps his beard in three thick braids bound with copper rings and tiny bone charms, but the left braid is carefully threaded with a silk ribbon, a surprisingly elegant touch on an otherwise rugged man. His hands are scarred, callused, and ink-stained from keeping ledgers, yet his movements are light and musical, more like a dancer guiding a reel than a barkeep reaching for a mug. He wears an apron of oil-dark leather over patched finery, and the whole ensemble is immaculate despite the chaos around him. His presence feels warm, sly, and slightly dangerous, like a hearth with a secret latch.
“His voice is a low, resonant baritone that can become oddly lilting when he sings. He speaks in crisp, market-hard phrases, but when he is trying to comfort someone his words soften into almost parental cadence.”

Distinguishing Features
A cracked silver tooth engraved with a tiny lyre
A scar across the throat that he conceals with a silk scarf when performing
Copper rings woven into his beard like miniature tankard handles
One sleeve cuff embroidered with tiny runes that look decorative but are actually old warding marks
A faint scent of malt, smoke, and orange peel that clings to him even after bathing
Voice
“Rich, gravelly, and musical, with the cadence of someone used to calming drunks and intimidating liars without raising his volume”
Clothing
A patched black waistcoat over a wine-red shirt, a heavy leather apron with hidden pockets, thick wool trousers, and polished boots with silver buckles. He wears a stage scarf when performing, though it is frayed at the edges from years of use.
Body Language
He stands with his elbows close to his sides like a practiced innkeeper, but in conversation he leans in with conspiratorial confidence. When he is pleased, his beard rings chime softly as he nods. When angry, he goes very still and squares his shoulders before speaking in a low, even voice.
