She wears her trade like armor, with a pin-stiff apron, looped measuring cords, and a collar of folded fabric samples, yet the sleeves of her work tunic are always rolled precisely the same length. The most memorable contradiction is her hands, which are scarred, blunt-fingered, and heavy from years of work, while her embroidery is impossibly delicate, fine enough to mimic spider silk or frost on a windowpane. When amused, her whole body tilts slightly left, as though listening to a secret seam in the room.
