Appearance
Rowen Jace is a square-shouldered human with the compact strength of someone who has spent three decades wrestling grain sacks and stubborn machinery. Flour permanently clings to his eyebrows, sleeve seams, beard stubble, and the deep creases around his eyes, making him look faintly snow-capped even in midsummer. His movements are economical and grounded, with a slight sideways sway caused by years of walking beside turning millstones. He leaves behind the smell of warm grain, river water, and lamp oil. Unexpectedly, his hands are remarkably delicate, with long careful fingers better suited to repairing a watch than hauling flour. His left shoulder is higher than his right, and when he smiles, only one side of his mouth rises.
“Low, dry, and unhurried, with a river-country accent. Rowen speaks as though every sentence is being measured into a sack, and his rare bursts of anger come out quieter rather than louder.”

Voice
“A low, grain-dry baritone with a patient rhythm. When amused, he snorts through his nose. When frightened, he becomes bright and conversational. When furious, every word is carefully pronounced.”
Clothing
A patched brown work coat, undyed linen shirt, heavy trousers tucked into cracked leather boots, a red wool scarf inherited from his father, and a leather belt crowded with wedges, twine, chalk, and small repair tools
Body Language
Rowen plants both feet before answering difficult questions and rubs flour between his thumb and forefinger while thinking. When he distrusts someone, he begins arranging nearby objects into precise rows. When genuinely angry, he becomes perfectly still except for the slow flexing of his right hand.
