Sable Murn
Species
Smallfolk Beastfolk
Appearance
Sable Murn is a small, bird-boned beastfolk with the narrow muzzle of an otter and the furred hands of a marsh vole, though the fur has thinned on the fingers from years of handling salt, rope, and bone-dry relics. They move with a careful, almost funeral grace, every step measured as if the floorboards were a chapel aisle, yet their tail flicks with the impatient energy of a haggler. Their shop smell clings to them, a strange blend of lamp oil, cedar, river mud, lavender sachets, and the cold iron scent of old coins. One eye is always a little too focused, the other slightly clouded with a milky film from a lantern accident, giving them the unsettling impression of seeing both the living room and the next one over. The contradiction that makes them memorable is their attire, severe and mournful at first glance, but embroidered inside the cuffs with bright children’s birds, stitched in secret by a dead sibling.
“Low and careful, with a funeral cadence and a habit of pausing before nouns that matter. They never waste a syllable, yet every sentence feels chosen from a larger, hidden ledger.”

A crescent scar across the throat that never seems to bleed when nicked
A collection of tiny bells sewn inside their sleeves that do not ring unless someone tells a lie nearby
One milky eye that reflects candlelight like swamp glass
Fingertips stained permanently black from handling tar, ink, and corpse wax
Voice
“Soft, dry, and respectful, with a habit of sounding apologetic while delivering unsettling information.”

A charcoal coat cut like a mortician’s frock, oil-dark gloves, high boots stained at the hem by marsh silt, and a clerical collar made from bleached shell. Hidden beneath the outer coat are pockets lined with red thread and little clacking charms made from ship rivets.
Body Language
Still and contained, with precise hand movements, a slight forward tilt as if listening to the floorboards, and a habit of folding their fingers together like prayer beads when deciding whether to lie.
