Appearance
Elias Venn is a lean, bookish human with the careful posture of a man who has spent years dodging falling shelves and awkward questions. His hands are ink-stained to the second knuckle, but his sleeves are always impeccably rolled, as if precision itself were a habit he cannot break. He moves with soft, economical steps, yet every so often he jolts into sudden stillness, head tilted, as if he has heard a page turn in an empty room. Around his neck hangs a tiny brass magnifier that reflects the light like a cat's eye. The contradictory detail is his smile, warm and almost paternal, which sits on a face hardened by old grief and sleepless study.
“Soft, precise, and slightly formal, with the cadence of someone who has spent years reading aloud to himself. He often says things like, 'Let us not make a catastrophe of a minor inconvenience,' and 'I have read worse endings, but not many.”

Distinguishing Features
A crescent-shaped scar across the right eyebrow
Ink stains that never quite wash out of his fingertips
A brass bookmark pendant that doubles as a focus
Burn scars on the left hand hidden beneath a glove
One shop sleeve lined with tiny stitched pockets for note-slips, keys, and chalk
Voice
“Low, careful, and slightly velveted by years of reading aloud, with a faint northern coastal lilt that sharpens when he is irritated.”
Clothing
A charcoal waistcoat embroidered with gold thread in looping bookmark patterns, a cream shirt with ink-blot cuffs, slate trousers, and polished boots that have been mended twice with spell-sealed stitches. He wears a fingerless glove on his left hand to hide the burn scars across two fingers.
Body Language
Careful and contained, with quick finger taps against his thumb when thinking. He avoids looming over others, instead leaning slightly forward as though confiding a secret. In tense moments his shoulders rise and his gaze darts to exits, shelves, and reflective surfaces.
