Jaxith Vespera
Jaxith Vespera
At the table
Voice
Whisper-thin and somewhat dry, like parchment rubbing together.
Soft and raspy, with a tendency to trail off. She speaks in short, utilitarian sentences and never makes eye contact with patrons.
Speech patterns
How to play them
She will initially act as a mindless servant. If offered a coin or a genuine kindness, she will slowly reveal pieces of the corruption she has witnessed.
Goal
To save enough money to buy her freedom or gain a promotion to the dining floor.
Motivation
To leave the basement and see the city during the daylight hours for the first time in a decade.
Appearance
Jaxith is a study in grayscale against her naturally vibrant reddish skin. She is small and hunched from years of scrubbing, her skin the color of cooling volcanic rock. Her short, black horns are perpetually tucked under a heavy, grease-stained linen bonnet that smells of old lye. Paradoxically, while her clothes are covered in soot and food scraps, her hands are impeccably clean and soft because of the expensive lavender oils used for the restaurant's fine crystal. She moves with a silent, sliding gait that makes her seem more like a shifting shadow than a person. When she looks up, her eyes are solid, unblinking pools of burnished gold that seem to capture more light than they should in the dim kitchens.
Clothing
A tattered, multi-layered wool dress beneath a heavy, oil-slicked leather apron. She wears thick bandages around her forearms to protect against steam burns.
Body language
Usually maintains a low profile with shoulders rolled forward. She constantly wipes her hands on her apron even when they are clean.

Personality
11 traits and drivesJaxith is a master of being overlooked, a trait she wears like armor. She is incredibly observant and cynical, viewing the wealthy patrons of The Gilded Lily as nothing more than walking piles of coin and waste. While she is fiercely protective of the other kitchen staff, she secretly hoards information like a magpie. She is currently paralyzed by a moral deadlock: she feels a desperate loyalty to Barty for his kindness, yet she craves the validation and escape that a promotion from Madame Elara would provide. She is quiet and submissive to superiors but possesses a sharp, biting wit when speaking to her peers in the damp basement of the kitchen.

Background
Jaxith was born to a family of fallen tiefling nobility and sold into indentured service at the age of seven to pay for her father's gambling debts. She has spent the last twelve years inside the three stories of The Gilded Lily, moving from the trash pits to the scullery. She has watched the city's power players pass through the dining rooms, overhearing enough secrets to hang half the City Council. Her world is defined by the rhythm of the dinner rush and the sound of the dumbwaiter. Recently, she witnessed Barty, the head waiter, skimming profits and selling reservation slots to a local criminal syndicate. At the same time, Madame Elara has promised her a role as a waitress if she helps root out the 'dishonesty' currently bleeding the restaurant dry.
Role in the story
An information broker masquerading as a lowly servant who can provide players with evidence of high-society corruption.
