Appearance
Mira Hobb looks like someone the road has tried to erase and failed. She is compact and wiry, always moving with a cautious half-step as if expecting loose ground beneath her. Her coat is patched from three different caravans, yet the seams are carefully reinforced and the cuffs are clean, as though she repairs what others discard but refuses to look ragged while doing it. A silver whistle hangs at her throat beside a cracked amber prayer bead. Her left hand is ink-stained, her right knuckles scarred, and when she is nervous she smooths the same crease in her sleeve over and over. The contradiction that people remember is that she wears a bright red ribbon in her hair like a festival girl, even when she is hiding from armed pursuers.
“Low, quick, and exact, with the cadence of someone who measures every word against its consequences. She uses plain language when frightened, but when she is trying to charm or bargain, her tone turns gentle and almost singsong.”
