Bruni is a broad-shouldered dwarf with a soot-polished face that looks carved from old walnut and river stone. His beard is thick, braided into two heavy cords with copper rings, but one side is always a little singed as if he has spent years leaning too close to friendly fires. He moves with the careful economy of a mason balancing a load of bricks, yet his eyes dart quickly and brightly like a ledger counting every debt in the room. The oddest thing about him is the immaculate white apron he wears over his work clothes, spotless except for a single handprint of black ash over the heart, which he refuses to wash away.
