Appearance
Finn Grafton is a lean, weather-hardened human with the rope-burned hands and balanced stance of someone who has spent most of his life on moving decks. Blue-green river tattoos wind from his left wrist to his throat, depicting drowned bells, reed beds, shoals, and a tiny map of Dawnvale's lower channels. His right index finger is missing its final joint, the old wound polished smooth by years of work. He moves with a rolling gait on land, yet becomes unnervingly graceful aboard a boat, sliding around obstacles without seeming to look. His coat smells of tar, wet wool, and cinnamon bark. The unexpected softness of his appearance is a pair of pale, carefully groomed eyebrows that make his permanently suspicious expression seem almost scholarly.
“Finn speaks quickly but clearly, with a low rasp softened by years of shouting over wind and water. He uses dock slang, nautical metaphors, and abrupt pauses.”

Distinguishing Features
Blue-green river tattoos showing hidden channels beneath Dawnvale.
Missing fingertip on the right index finger.
A brass military whistle worn beneath his shirt.
A habitually crooked smile that appears whenever he is most afraid.
Boot soles reinforced with mismatched pieces of ship decking.
Voice
“A low river rasp with a dry, crooked humor, like a dock bell muffled by fog”
Clothing
A patched charcoal boat coat lined with waxed canvas, a faded red waist sash, knee-high river boots, fingerless gloves, and a brass whistle tied beneath his collar. His clothing is practical, but every repair has been made with unusually fine thread.
Body Language
Finn keeps one shoulder angled toward the nearest exit and rests his missing fingertip against his thumb when thinking. On a boat, his knees remain slightly bent even while standing still. When lying, he becomes unnaturally motionless.
