Appearance
Varr Kett looks carved rather than born, a narrow man with a ruin-straight spine and a stillness that makes every movement feel deliberate. His skin is sallow and paper-dry, his cheeks hollow from years spent under lamplight and above stale ink. He dresses in a formal black waistcoat with a missing second button, charcoal sleeves permanently smudged at the cuffs, and a tie pinned with a tarnished counting bead. One eye is clouded with a pale gray film from an old injury, while the other is sharp, cold, and constantly measuring. His left hand trembles only when he is angry, which only makes him seem more dangerous. The strangest thing about him is the immaculate white linen strip wrapped around his right wrist, always spotless no matter how filthy the room gets.
“Low, clipped, and exact, with every sentence arranged like a filing system. He rarely wastes words, and when he does, the extra word usually means trouble.”

Distinguishing Features
A clouded left eye that reflects lamplight like wet glass
Two missing fingers on his right hand, replaced by tight leather wraps
A white wrist band that never seems to stain
A brass key on a chain worn under his shirt
A faint smell of vinegar, old paper, and wet stone
Voice
“Dry as paper, quiet as a blade leaving its sheath, with a faint clerk's precision and a habit of pausing just before the most unpleasant word”
Clothing
A soot-dark waistcoat, narrow collar, ink-stained shirt, well-made trousers with repaired knees, and polished boots that are better maintained than anything else he owns
Body Language
He folds himself into corners, fingers steepled, head slightly lowered as if listening to the floor. When he thinks, his thumb rubs the edge of a page rather than his chin. In confrontations he barely gestures, relying on eye contact and long silences instead of theatrics.
