Sister Hester Wray
Hearthfaith Priest
Sister Hester Wray
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Sister Hester Wray is a weathered halfling whose compact frame seems built from old rope and seasoned oak. Her face is deeply lined around the mouth, yet her smile arrives quickly when children enter the room. Ash-gray hair escapes from a soot-darkened linen scarf in wiry wisps. Her hands are broad, capable, and marked by shiny burns across the knuckles from years of tending memorial braziers. She moves with a deliberate, limping rhythm, always keeping one shoulder slightly forward as though shielding an invisible flame from the wind. The unexpected thing about her is her immaculate elegance: even after a night of smoke, rain, and funeral work, one fingernail on each hand is painted with bright vermilion hearth-clay.
“Her voice is low, clear, and comforting when speaking to the grieving, with a dry rasp at the edges from years of smoke. She rarely raises it.”
