The Hearth in the Harbor

The Salt-Step Block stands as a defiance against the biting gale of the docks. While the surrounding alleys of the port district reek of dead fish and tar, this small cul-de-sac smells unexpectedly of dried lavender and roasting cinnamon. The center of this anomaly is the Hearthstone Gull, a tavern whose windows glow with a warmth that seems to physically repel the coastal fog. Here, the floorboards don't creak, the draft never penetrates the heavy velvet drapes, and the roar of the ocean is reduced to a soothing rhythmic thrum. Adjacent to the tavern sits a narrow, well-kept apothecary, its stone walls sharing a chimney stack with the inn. The two buildings lean against one another like old friends, creating a sheltered nook where the harbor's desperate noise feels a world away. It is a place of forced serenity, where even the roughest deckhand finds themselves lowering their voice to a whisper and wiping their boots before crossing the threshold.
