Herdwise spirituality centers on the Living Road, an unseen current connecting ancestors, weather, animals, and the places where people keep their promises. Some honor a pantheon of wind-riders, hearth-keepers, and horned judges, while others follow local spirits tied to springs, standing stones, or ancient trees. Their culture prizes generosity, courage, loyalty, and practical wisdom. Herdwise are often good or neutral, though individuals who have survived predatory clans or oppressive empires may embrace a more ruthless philosophy.

Herdwise homelands are defined by movement rather than borders. Their portable lodges use layered felt, leather, woven reed, and painted poles, while permanent waystations stand beside reliable springs and seasonal rivers. These settlements are built low against the wind, with circular gathering halls, sunken sleeping chambers, and tall marker posts visible from miles away. Every major structure includes a guest shelter, because refusing water or shade to a traveler is considered a grave spiritual offense.

Herdwise are accustomed to meeting strangers at wells, crossroads, and seasonal markets, so they are often more cosmopolitan than outsiders expect. They tend to respect settled peoples who honor agreements and provide fair shelter, while distrusting rulers who draw borders across migration routes. Herdwise communities maintain especially strong ties with rangers, caravaners, shepherds, druids, and other travelers. They may find city life claustrophobic, yet many become excellent merchants, guides, messengers, and diplomats.
