The Steam Pillar
The Steam Pillar is a cylindrical tower of dark granite reinforced with bolted copper bands. Built directly over a volcanic geyser, it functions as the mechanical heart of Ironspire Junction. Massive iron pistons oscillate on the exterior walls, while a network of brass pipes carries pressurized steam to the mansions and factories of the upper district.

The Steam Pillar
The interior is stiflingly hot and heavy with the scent of sulfur and wet iron. A constant, low-frequency hum vibrates through the floorboards, punctuated by the rhythmic clanking of turbines and the occasional high-pitched whistle of escaping pressure.

Barnaby is an obsessive and anxious man who views the geyser as a living beast that must be appeased. He sleeps in a cot next to the main gauge and is prone to rhythmic humming when he is stressed.
History
Industrial Hazards
The heat within the Pillar is intense. Any creature spending more than an hour inside must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or gain a level of exhaustion. Furthermore, any attack that misses a target by 5 or more while near the pipes may rupture a line, dealing 4d6 fire damage in a 15-foot line (DC 14 Dexterity save for half).
Power Distribution Grid
The station provides energy to three major systems in Ironspire: the Upper District streetlights, the Grand Elevator, and the Junction Ore Crushers. Sabotaging any one of the three primary valves can disable these services instantly, causing significant chaos in the city's infrastructure.
Station Security
Because of its vital importance, the Pillar is guarded by two Steam-Golems (use Helmed Horror stats with immunity to fire damage) that are programmed to ignore staff but attack anyone not wearing an official warden's badge.

A stout dwarf with heat-scarred hands and specialized leather goggles who manages the constant repairs required by the corrosive steam.
A nimble tiefling orphan employed to climb the outer scaffolding to check for hairline fractures in the primary exhaust pipes.
Rumors & Plot Hooks
- 1.The steam contains trace amounts of elemental essence that can be distilled into potent, though unstable, potions.
- 2.Barnaby Fletcher is siphoning off a small portion of the power to run a secret invention in the sub-cellar.
- 3.The geyser is not a natural phenomenon but the exhaled breath of an ancient red dragon trapped deep beneath the junction.
Classified Entry
The geothermal vent is actually a thinning of the veil between the Material Plane and the Elemental Plane of Fire. The 'mineral deposits' clogging the pipes are actually the crystalline eggs of Magmin, which hatch if the pressure levels are not kept strictly within the green zone.
