The Ash Ring

The Ash Ring is a semi-subterranean combat theater carved into the foundation of Ironshriek Bastion. Its stone tiers are choked with black dust and industrial runoff, while the central floor is a mesh of reinforced iron plates over a dark, flooded basement. Once a place of prestige for the military elite, it is now a jagged scar in the earth where the stench of coal smoke and ancient blood lingers.

The Ash Ring

Oppressive and metallic. The air is thick with soot, and every footstep on the iron floor plates produces a hollow, haunting clang that echoes through the buried chambers.

History

Built during the first industrial expansion of Ironshriek Bastion, the arena was intended to harden the city's officers through live-fire exercises and gladiatorial combat. A catastrophic structural failure in the district above caused a landslide, partially burying the facility in silt and rubble twenty years ago.

Automated Hazard Systems

The arena floor is rigged with early industrial traps. On initiative count 20, the DM can trigger a burst of scalding steam from the floor pipes (DC 15 Dexterity save or 4d6 fire damage) or activate a rotating serrated saw blade that moves 30 feet across the pit.

Elite Training Regimens

For a fee or a favor, Major Thorne allows adventurers to test their mettle against waves of mechanical constructs. Completing three rounds without a long rest earns the party the 'Bastion Hardened' inspiration, granting a bonus to saving throws against exhaustion and fear for 48 hours.

The Sunken Vault

Located behind a rusted iron door in the basement, this room contains several rusted suits of Half-Plate, three +1 longswords, and a rare schematics book detailing the construction of early steam-powered siege engines.
