The Grey Reach
A singular, tapering needle of basalt stone that pierces the heavy mist of the Ever-Dying Forest. The tower stands four stories tall, though its uppermost level is a skeletal ruin where a brass dome once sat. Ivy with oily, black leaves clings to the masonry, and the ground around the base is a soup of mud and bleached animal bones. A single narrow door of iron-banded oak remains, though it is swollen shut by the damp.

The Grey Reach
The air is heavy with the scent of wet soot and stagnant water. A low, vibrating hum resonates through the floorboards, occasionally broken by the scratching of talons against stone. The thick fog outside presses against the windows like a physical weight, creating a sense of total isolation.

Meticulous and deeply confused by the passage of time. He speaks as if his failed ritual is still currently in progress and grows violent if his 'calculations' are disturbed.
History
Astral Hazards
The uppermost floor is subject to localized gravity shifts. At the start of each round of combat, creatures must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be pulled 10 feet toward the broken telescope lens, which deals 4d6 necrotic damage on contact.
Forbidden Research
The second floor houses a collection of scorched scrolls and star charts. A character who spends an hour studying these and succeeds on a DC 18 Intelligence (Arcana) check learns the location of a hidden portal in the Ever-Dying Forest, but also suffers one level of exhaustion from the mental strain.
The Fog Anchor
The oppressive fog surrounding the tower is maintained by four silver braziers hidden in the cellar. As long as these braziers burn with their ghostly green flame, visibility within 300 feet of the tower remains restricted to 30 feet and creatures cannot benefit from advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks.
Denizens

A twisted, gaunt creature that was once a forest guide. It now prowls the lower floors, mimicking the voices of lost travelers to lure intruders into the dark.
A mechanical model of the solar system located on the third floor. It clicks and whirrs in a jagged rhythm, occasionally shouting coordinates in a metallic rasp.
Rumors & Plot Hooks
- 1.The telescope doesn't look at the sky, but instead peers directly into the Border Ethereal.
- 2.A golden key that unlocks the treasury of Sylaerth was swallowed by the tower's last apprentice.
- 3.If the violet light in the spire ever stops pulsing, the fog will finally lift from the forest.
Classified Entry
The tower is anchored to a rift in the Shadowfell. The necrotic energy isn't just a byproduct; it is being actively pumped into the forest to prevent the rift from expanding and swallowing the entire province.
