NPC Goal
Test whether the heroes will protect the Nova’s Heart without seeking ownership, glory, or unrestricted power.
Leverage
The party can prove protective intent by naming a danger they will face for the Heart, accepting a binding promise, or offering Seraphel a clear account of who sent them.
Player Approaches
- Rotate a sigil and interpret its revealed phrase with Arcana, Religion, or History.
- Ask Seraphel what oath she expects, then answer without trying to bargain around its meaning.
- Place a weapon, relic, or written pledge on the mirrored floor as a sign of service.
- Invoke the Vault Beneath the Spire quest and state who would suffer if the Heart were corrupted.
NPC Gambits
- Divide the oath into seven plain promises, one for each sigil.
- Challenge a false glyph by comparing its reflection with the wall inscriptions.
- Ask Seraphel to judge a promise before locking the final sigil.
- Admit an unsafe motive and offer a safeguard that limits the party’s power.
NPC Reactions
- On a sincere answer, Seraphel lowers her sword and supplies a useful historical clue.
- On clever but evasive answers, she asks who benefits if the party fails.
- On threats or demands, the glyphs flare and she becomes HOSTILE.
- On a clear promise to protect the Heart, she completes the final sigil herself.
