Fan of the Honeyed Hush
This elegant war fan is made from overlapping panes of lacquered infernal silk stretched over thin ribs of warm brass. Its outer edge is trimmed in gold, and each rib ends in a tiny bee-shaped ornament with glassy ruby eyes. When opened, the fan gives off a rich scent of honey, toasted sugar, and expensive perfume. The handle is wrapped in soft black velvet, and the surface shimmers like heat above a banquet table. When held, it feels oddly comforting, as if it were made to be stroked, petted, and kept close to the heart.
