Codicil Quill
Species
Human
Appearance
Codicil Quill is a lean, ink-stained human with long hands and the careful posture of someone perpetually balancing an invisible stack of papers. Their skin is warm brown, textured by faint lines of permanent blue-black pigment that run from the fingertips toward the elbows like delicate veins. Their copper hair is cut short on one side and left in a loose, unruly fall on the other, usually pinned with broken quills. Their movements are precise until they become excited, at which point they pace in tight circles while writing in the air with one finger. They leave an impression of restrained elegance undermined by the fact that their boots are always muddy, no matter the weather.
“Measured and articulate, with a dry warmth that sharpens into icy precision when discussing injustice. Codicil pauses before names, dates, and promises as though checking them against an invisible ledger.”

Distinguishing Features
Permanent blue-black ink lines run beneath the skin of both arms.
The left thumbnail is made of polished ivory and clicks against glass when Codicil is thinking.
A thin scar crosses the throat, hidden beneath a red scarf.
Their shadow sometimes appears to hold a quill even when Codicil's hands are empty.
Every personal possession bears a tiny handwritten inventory number.
Voice
“A low, papery contralto with a faint rasp, as if every sentence has passed through a stack of old books before emerging.”
Clothing
A dark green waistcoat beneath a high-collared charcoal coat, both reinforced with hidden parchment pockets. Their cuffs are embroidered with tiny silver letters, while a red scarf covers an old scar around the throat. They wear soft leather boots, fingerless gloves, and a belt hung with sealing wax, brass rulers, magnifying lenses, and six different kinds of ink.
Body Language
Codicil keeps one hand near a quill or blade and tilts their head whenever someone makes a promise. When relaxed, they fold receipts into tiny birds. When frightened, they become unnaturally still, with their shoulders squared and their fingertips pressed together like a closed book.
