Veyr Ghalzara, Keeper of the Last Tide
Commoner
Veyr Ghalzara, Keeper of the Last Tide
Species
Dragonborn
Appearance
Ghalzara Veyr-of-the-Last-Tide is a towering bronze-scaled dragonborn woman whose scales have dulled to the color of weathered ship metal, with green oxidation gathered around her jaw, knuckles, and collarbones. Her hide is ridged and rough like hammered armor, while her palms are unexpectedly soft from decades of repairing fishing nets. A crown of swept-back horns frames her head like the prow of a ship, each horn wrapped in faded red thread marking the names of people she has outlived. She walks with a slow, deliberate limp, dragging one foot as though still crossing a storm-tossed deck, yet she can move with startling speed when someone near her is threatened. Her expression is stern enough to frighten thieves, but she wears tiny spectacles balanced on the end of her snout and becomes visibly flustered whenever praised.
“A low, weathered contralto with a faint rasp, like rope dragged across a wooden deck. Her Draconic becomes musical when she recites names, while her Common grows clipped and formal when she is frightened or angry.”

Distinguishing Features
A line of tiny brass bells is fused into the ridge of her left horn, each bell representing a lighthouse she has maintained
Her right eye is cloudy white, but it reflects distant lightning even indoors
Three black scorch marks cross her throat from the failed beacon during the Black Gale
She carries an oar with hundreds of names carved into its shaft
Her bronze scales smell faintly of rain on hot stone
Voice
“Deep, dry, and resonant, with the distant rumble of thunder behind every sentence”
Clothing
A patched navy-blue coat made from old sailcloth, reinforced with bronze plates at the shoulders and ribs, over a cream linen shirt stained with lamp oil. She wears a red sash containing keys to abandoned lighthouses and a belt hung with tools, hooks, chalk, and small glass vials of seawater.
Body Language
Ghalzara stands with her shoulders squared like a lighthouse keeper facing heavy wind. When suspicious, she folds her arms over her chest and taps one claw against her elbow in a steady rhythm. When emotionally overwhelmed, she becomes busy with knots, cups, locks, or loose threads. Her tail gives away feelings her face conceals, flicking sharply when angry and curling protectively around children or injured guests.
