Lyssandra Veil
Wizard, School of Illusion
Lyssandra Veil
Species
Tiefling
Appearance
Lyssandra has violet skin with a satin sheen, as though moonlight has soaked beneath its surface. Her curved obsidian horns sweep backward from her brow and frame her face like an elegant crown. Her black hair is cut in a sharp shoulder-length bob, though individual strands occasionally become translucent ribbons of color when her magic stirs. Her eyes are bright amber with tiny violet rings around the pupils, and her smile suggests she has just remembered a joke no one else is ready to understand. Her robes constantly shimmer with shifting illusion magic, changing from peacock blue to wine red to silver-gray every few breaths. Illusory butterflies and drifting motes of light follow her through the Institute, but her shadow behaves incorrectly, sometimes turning its head before she does. Despite her theatrical appearance, her hands are callused and ink-stained, and she moves with the quiet economy of someone accustomed to fleeing danger rather than performing for an audience.
“Her voice is low, musical, and slightly breathy, with the cadence of a stage performer speaking to the back row. She can imitate almost any voice she has heard, but her natural voice becomes more pronounced when she is tired or sincere.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin gold crack runs from her left eyebrow to the corner of her mouth, an old magical scar that glows when she casts illusion spells.
Her shadow sometimes moves independently, especially when she is lying.
One horn bears tiny brass rings engraved with the names of people she failed to save.
Her robes display fleeting scenes from places she has never visited.
She carries a plain wooden theater mask that always depicts the face of the person speaking to her.
Voice
“A velvet contralto with a faint rasp, like silk dragged across broken glass. When she is casting, a second voice repeats her final syllables from somewhere just behind the listener.”
Clothing
Layered midnight robes sewn with reflective thread, a high-collared plum waistcoat, silver fingerless gloves, soft black boots, and a narrow belt holding crystal vials of colored sand. Her cloak is lined with scraps of painted scenery from vanished theaters.
Body Language
Lyssandra tilts her head as if listening to a second conversation beneath the first. She touches one horn when thinking, taps two fingers against her wrist when impatient, and maintains eye contact a fraction longer than is comfortable. When frightened, she becomes perfectly still while her clothing erupts into frantic color changes.
