Brannic Tallowtide
Commoner
Brannic Tallowtide
Species
Halfling
Appearance
Brannic is a compact halfling with the weathered look of a man who has spent more nights under canvas than under a roof. His skin is sun-browned and creased at the corners, his hands are thick-knuckled and always faintly scented of cedar, cumin, and lamp oil. He moves with a soft, springy step like a cat trying not to wake a sleeping house, yet his face is unexpectedly severe, with a stern merchant's squint that makes him seem older when he is angry and younger when he laughs. One ear is slightly torn, and a tiny silver bell is stitched into the hem of his coat so he can hear if anyone is sneaking up behind him.
“He speaks in a low, quick, sandpapery baritone with a merchant's rhythm, often finishing sentences as if he is offering terms. He uses affectionate nicknames for customers, but only when he likes them.”

Distinguishing Features
A tiny brass bell sewn into his coat hem
A torn left ear from a childhood dog bite and a later knife slash
Ink stains that never quite leave the creases of his fingertips
A silver scale brooch with one bent arm
An almost comically careful habit of polishing even mundane objects
Voice
“Gentle, measured, and dryly amused, with a habit of sounding as if every sentence has already been weighed against the market price of silence.”
Clothing
A patched burgundy merchant coat with brass buttons, layered over a green waistcoat, dark travel breeches, and polished boots reinforced at the toes. He wears a belt of stamped pouches, a waxed apron folded into his satchel, and a silver brooch shaped like a scale that has one arm slightly bent.
Body Language
He leans forward when interested, tilts his head like he is weighing a gem, and taps two fingers against his wrist when impatient. In danger, he becomes oddly still, with only his eyes moving.
