Varrik Stonequill
Battle Master Fighter
Varrik Stonequill
Species
Hill Dwarf
Appearance
A broad-shouldered dwarf with soot-gray skin and the clean, precise hands of a calligrapher, Varrik moves like a quarry cart on well-oiled rails, steady and surprisingly graceful for his size. His beard is iron-black at the roots, then abruptly pale silver at the braids, as if someone poured moonlight into it and forgot to finish. One eye is amber and sharp as polished resin, the other a clouded blue that never seems to look where his head is pointed, yet always notices the thing behind the door. He smells faintly of wet stone, lamp oil, and crushed mint. Despite his miner's scars and hammer-callused knuckles, he wears tiny stained-glass prayer charms sewn into his cuffs, an unexpectedly delicate touch that makes him seem both dangerous and oddly tender.
“Measured, practical, and low-voiced, with a habit of pausing as if listening to the floor beneath him before finishing a sentence..”

Distinguishing Features
A lattice of tiny rune scars across his forearms that glow faintly when he is angry or casting wards.
An amber eye and a clouded blue eye that seem to judge different truths at once.
One silver beard braid sealed with a black wax bead taken from the cave-in that nearly killed him.
A ring of four tiny bells on his tool belt that never quite ring at the same time.
Voice
“Gravelly baritone with a soft miner's rasp, especially when he laughs or is trying not to.”
Clothing
A smoke-blue work coat reinforced with leather at the shoulders, rune-stitched gloves, iron buckles, a slate-gray sash of tools, and a travel apron marked with chalk dust and devotional stains.
Body Language
He stands squarely with his feet planted as if bracing against a cave-in, and when he speaks he often points with the blunt end of a chisel rather than a finger. His gaze flicks to cracks in masonry before it returns to a face, and he unconsciously rubs his thumb over the old collapse scar on his left palm whenever a secret or danger is near.
