Arken Veyr-of-the-Quiet Kiln is a broad-shouldered brass dragonborn whose hide has the matte, weathered texture of old cookware rather than the polished sheen of a noble drake. Fine black soot settles permanently into the grooves around his horns and jaw, giving him the look of a carved statue recently lifted from a chimney. His left horn is broken halfway down and capped with a little iron thimble, while his tail is wrapped in red furnace cloth to conceal a long, puckered burn scar. He moves with the careful sideways steps of someone accustomed to narrow catwalks, yet his hands are unexpectedly gentle, always hovering near fragile objects as if afraid to bruise them. The contradictory impression he leaves is of a huge, intimidating creature who handles cups, birds, and frightened children with exquisite delicacy.
